Extended Essay

The impact of Mental Health Legislation in the development of Mexico

Reflective

The aim of my extended essay was to find the correlation between the poor implementation of mental health legislation and the social development of Mexican society. Some of the key concepts that stand out from this evidence include development, structural violence, poverty, political negligence, etc. In regards to the IB Learner Profile, I chose the one titled "reflective" since the analysis was based on different perspectives, case studies, several levels of analysis, and socio-economic structures. Furthermore, as I used numerous sources of information, being reflective was key to connect each piece of evidence to answer the main research question. A great part of the challenges I faced in the process of investigation are related to reflection and connecting several pieces of evidence in order to create an accurate conclusion. Also, as the mental health system has been poorly implemented, contacting public mental health hospitals and reaching policy-related documents were very hard to find. In regards to my personal life, after finishing the essay I realized I'd developed new analysis abilities. I learned how to compare to different perspectives by giving balanced credibility and reaching accurate conclusions. Lastly, I believe this particular evidence will help me in the working ambit by showing this piece of evidence while applying for a job. Also, it contributed to shape my analytical and writing skills.
